The Galesburg-Augusta Intermediate Schools accommodates fourth and fifth graders, and builds on the skills they attained during their K-3 education at the Primary.

The Intermediate offers extensive opportunities for students needing more of a challenge in their academic curriculum, including: Battle of the Books, Reading Counts, and a variety of other opportunities that suit the students’ needs. Students have access to extra-curricular activities including: Fifth Grade Camp, 4H, Scouts, Lymphoma Walk-A-Thon, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra performances, swimming instruction and The Washingtons’ assembly. For students who need extra help there are the following services available: At-Risk programming, Title 1 and
additional interventions for Math as well as Special Education services.

The Michigan Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative, MiBLSi, is a state grant that has provided the Intermediate School with financial support and professional development. This grant comes from Michigan Department of Education. Additional information is available at the web site: http://www.cenmi.org/miblisi. The MiBLSi grant provided the opportunity for the staff
to catapult into the newest of innovations in the area of positive behavior support and academic excellence. The staff is highly trained in providing interventions in order to meet needs of the students. The training was focused in the areas of classroom management and developmentally appropriate strategies in academic and behavior instruction. The Intermediate School is a proud member of the MiBLSi consortium.
